A 17-year-old upper-secondary student from Vejle is one of two Danes who is thought to have died in fighting in Syria this week, reports metroXpress.
According to several media reports, including Syrian TV, the Danes were among 60 and 80 rebel fighters who were killed in intense fighting with government forces in the Syrian city of Aleppo over the weekend.
One carried a Danish passport, but was not identified in media reports, while the other carried a student card for 17-year-old Fatih Jahangir Khan from Rødkilde Gymnasium in Vejle.
Sad and incomprehensible
The school’s headteacher, Hans Erik Duschek-Hansen, told metroXpress that the student card matches the identity of a student who had dropped out in December last year after only six months at the school.

“It is of course very sad that such a young person would go to war, and also incomprehensible that young people would seek out such extreme situations,” Hansen said.
The Immigration Service told metroXpress that it could not confirm that two Danes had died in the fighting, as it had only started investigating the case today.
